Overview:
Encore Payment Systems (EPS) is an ISO/MSP that was established in 2004. It is based out of Addison, Texas. The company is also doing business under the names of Prodigy Payment Systems and Momentum Payment Systems. Usually companies acquire multiple DBA’s when they are providing entirely different range of services but this is not the case with EPS. They all are the same; offering same set of services but just under different names, so don’t fool yourself in thinking that you will get anything different from any one of them.

To find the noteworthy facts about EPS that you should be aware of, see the sections “Common Complaints” and “Negative Reviews” but here I am giving a short outline of these.

Firstly, you should consider their terminal leasing program before you sign up with EPS. Usually a terminal lease holds you in a contract of 4 years, cancellation of which can cause serious repercussions. No doubt leases are a big money maker for ISOs and MSPs who push them and EPS is one of those. Nowadays most of the processors have abandoned them since leases are quite unfair on the part of the merchant. I would never recommend leasing terminals since it’s always an expensive option. So, there is no point in going with a provider like EPS when there are so many others in the industry who don’t lock you in any such contract. Now coming to the second important issue that you should seriously consider is that EPS seems to operate on the policy of “burn and churn”.  They seem to continually employ outside sales agent who are more interested in inflating commissions rather than inflating the profit of clients. Of course, there would be some great sales agents in the company but who wants to take the risk when you can have other better options in this competent industry. EPS needs to act wisely to make sure that their hired sales agents stick to the company’s legitimate policies.

Another thing that adds to their negative scores is their lack of efforts in testimonial section; they really need to work on that too. They do have some testimonials on their site but without mentioning any business name or name of the merchant, so there is no way on earth they can be used as reference! Putting up some good testimonials will surely help them counter their down going repo. And yes of course, showing some response in the terminal lease issue as well.

They have active Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts so you can easily connect them via these.

I am rating Encore Payment System 2.5 out of 5.

Trust Symbols:
Take a look at the Encore Payment Systems BBB profile. They have a “B-” rating as of this review with about 49 complaints filed against them in the last 36 months.

Negative Reviews:
Most of the important reviews that I was able to find were on RipOffReport (ROR). There are also a few here on Complaints Board. And, don’t forget to run a search for EPS’ sister companies Prodigy Payment Systems and Momentum Payment Systems.

Common Complaints:

Looks like EPS is running its business by continually employing outside sales agents, no doubt these complaints are the consequence of such deceptive hiring practice. But you can’t just pin the blame on these reps, this is what they are being paid for, it’s the company who has to be held responsible offering them terminal lease as an incentive. The terminal lease is a definite scheme embraced by some ISOs/MSPs to make a hell lot of money which is guaranteed for a period of 4 years.

I would seriously suggest that EPS should walk away from this terminal leasing program only if they want to keep their points up on the scoreboard of this business!

Verifiable Testimonials/References:
They have a section dedicated to merchant testimonials, but none of them have the merchant’s full-name and/or business name, so we can’t verify that they’re actual merchants.

Security/Privacy:
No on-site security features (i.e. McAfee, Security Metrics etc…).

Customer Service:
Have you worked with Encore Payment Systems? Feel free to leave us your review.

Contract Duration:
I was told by one of their representatives that contract duration may differ depending on requirements of a merchant. Then I looked into details to find something more specific in this regard and I came to know that Encore Payments Systems make you sign a contract extending over 3 year period but you can surely cancel it within 60 days.

Apart from the standard contract it seems like EPS does lock the merchants into a 4-year terminal lease that you can’t cancel and range in amount from $27 to $97 per month but that’s not fixed as it may vary.

I am trying to get a sample contract to clear out some of your confusion but till then I really hope that EPS straighten out their terms right here!

Cancellation Fee:
If you don’t cancel within the 60-day period, you will be charged a $250 cancellation (deconversion) fee. If you want a processor that doesn’t charge an early termination fee, try going with CDGcommerce or Flagship Merchant Services.

Interchange-Plus Pricing:
Interchange-plus is offered by EPS.

Seasonal Downtime:
I was told that EPS will set you up with a seasonal account, so be sure to ask for it.

Product/Service Offering:
Retail (Credit/Debit), Internet/e-Commerce, Mail Order/Telephone Order, Check Conversion and Guarantee, Wireless, EBT, Gift & Loyalty Cards.

Product/Service Specialty:
None.

  1. I strongly suggest looking in to reviews for business’s whom tried this company. I wish I would have. I was excited to reduce my rates and switch merchant account. I gave this company a try. Long story short I canceled before even finishing set-up. Or TRIED to cancel. They will not let you. 1- They give you the run around with multiple numbers with no answer. 2- I would get hung up on. ( I think they make commission) I would than call back immediately, get a different representative, tell them im trying to cancel and get the run around with phone numbers that do not exist, over and over. I decided to google these numbers, that’s when I found out how HORRIBLE this company is. The reviews hit the nail on the head. 3 – After days of this, I finally get some help ( I thought) at the end of the conversation, I asked to speak to a manager, as all our business phone calls are recorded and wanted someone to listen to a few of these calls. I get a “Manager” on the line, he wanted the name of the employee whose phone call I wanted him to listen too. He than connects me to the said employee (he immediately put me on hold after I gave the name, didn’t listen to calls, ect.) , she goes ballistic at first, at the end before she hung up on me, she said “im sending you” (some package) ” in the mail. Cant cancel us b!@#$” . I would love to add the recorded phone calls if I can

  2. This company calls our Business EVERY SINGLE DAY and we have asked them OVER & OVER to STOP CALLING! I assume they want us to change to their software/merchant, but we ARE NOT INTERESTED!! Our business has merchant account/processing through our software and we are NOT going to change **EVER*** I have been with this company 17 years & we have always used Sage Quantum Peachtree and just in last 5 years been able to run our merchant through this software, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP CALLING US!
